Poll
MORE NEWS ON THIS HERE
UPDATE Feb 14: English translation |
Thomas has released a letter on the Danish Mohamad caricatures, DENMARK, WHERE ARE YOU? A STORY ABOUT LONGING. Read the important letter in ENGLISH, translation now complete - HERE. Original in Danish HERE.
The letter has been picked up by numerous web sites including Iraqwar, uruk.net, Al Jazeera, Albasrah (Feb 17) and others, and is circulating by e-mail.
The daily newspaper Jyllandsposten, that published the caricatures, has an article in their Monday issue on Thomas' demand that the prime minister and his government step down for their role in the caricature case and for its decision to participate in the illegal and unconstitutional military occupation of Iraq.
More news: Feb 12, the conservative Danish daily Berlingske Tidende pubished a poll, proving that a comfortable majority of the Danish understand and synpathize with the Muslims, not the anti-Msulim propaganda, and don't agree there's a "clash of civilizations".

Busy Year For Savage Rose

The Nut Cracker - Aveny Theater's hiphop version of Tchaikowsky's famous ballet, with music by Thomas, Yo Akim, and a few others, just ended its 3rd year at the Tivoli Gardens Concert Hall. The performances were a solid sold-out success.......

Danish Government Puis The Savage Rose On List Of Most Important Works - The Savage Rose Declines |
The Danish Government yesterday published its so-called "Culture Cannon" - a list created by "specialists" hired by the dept. of culture guiding you through the most important works of art in the history of Denmark. The Savage Rose's first album ("Savage Rose") hAs been selected among 12 works in the category of Popular Music.
As early as Dec 14, 2004, Thomas was asked by a major, conservative newspaper, what his feelings were, should The Savage Rose be selected for the "cannon". The newspaper never published Thomas' answers; but they have been available at the Danish STOP THE TERROR WAR website and many other websites.
|
Here are some highlights:
"The government is trying to divert attention from the fact that they don't have any culture whatsoever. They're freighting Rumsfeld's cannons and plastic turkeys to a fake war against a foreign people that were unlucky enough to live on top of an oil field... "
Lars von Trier has said, that he would rather not be on the list, what do you think about that?
"Cannon lists, terror litsts, I think the culture bearing section of the Danish population - I'm relating to checkout girls, garbage men, scaffolders, students and accordion virtuosos - should help these guys go away. After the vandalizing of this government the world no longer sees Denmark as a culture nation, rather like the not-very-well-smelling litter box of a disintegrating U. S. president.
I'm longing for the true Denmark, with the fragrance of the world's reddest strawberries, and popular, fearless, vital inspiration. The Denmark worthy of a Hans Christian Andersen, Jeppe Aakjaer, and Carl Nielsen..." |

| December 24 2005 |
We at savagerose.com wish all friends, who celebrate Christmas, and those who don't, a beautiful time with family and friends. Millions are suffering or dying, children, men, women, brothers, sisters. We're thinking about the essence of The Savage Rose artistry: in the end it's a pounding heart, a representation of the dreams of the majority of the people on this planet, longing for unity, a unity highly necessary to save mankind and the planet itself from greed and reckless destruction. We wish the music of The Savage Rose to grow even bigger, more embracing, in 2006, and reach other houndreds of thousands around the globe.
In Scandinavia we were blessed with few, but unforgettable concerts, like when 4500 went to see Annisette and the band at thee Hedeland Amphitheatre in June - in spite of horrendous rain and cold. As the only spot probably in all of Denmark, the sun broke through the rain clouds right above the amphitheatre, while Annisette, almost like a shaman, went directly into every heart in the theatre field and filled us with energy and love. Even the sun couldn't resist. This world has so much beauty. It just needs to be free.
Annisette and Thomas have told us they are writing a New Year message that we will post shortly. Stay tuned.
Love, peace and justice from Lene, your webmaster. .......

From Annisette's & Thomas' visit to New York at the end of September 2005
|
While in New York at the end of September, Annisette & Thomas met and jammed with friends. They stayed at daughter Naja's Brooklyn apartment. Here they are with Walter Durkacz, director of Central Park's Summer Stage, legendary Joe's Pub, and other venues, and brilliant 20-year old bass player and singer Tina Kristina. Tina Kristina is New York's "Queen Of The Subway", amazing tens of thousands with her powerful musicality. She is out of a musical family not unlike Annisette's & Thomas' own; she is a New Yorker with an Eastern European gypsy origin.
The picture was taken after a long hot jam in Harlem including other friends like Tina's younger teen-age brother Glenn - himself an amazing young musician - legendary drummer-guitarist Tony Beard, and others.
While in New York, Annisette's & Thomas' daughter Naja - who lives in Brooklyn - invited Thomas to record with her a stunning new version of the famous Bagdad Cafe song "Calling You"........ |

New Danish Sixties Compilation
Updated October 17, 2005!!!
|
Updated October 17, 2005!!!
A new Danish 60ies compilation is being released by Universal Music .....
"Derfra Hvor Vi Stod" ("From Where We Were Standing").
The Savage Rose is of course included.
Leading music magazine GAFFA gives the CD set 5 stars and a rave review.....
More on this release as soon as we know more.....
UPDATE OCT 17 2005:
We have finally learned that The Savage Rose is represented by three songs:
A Girl I knew (from Savage Rose, 1968), Dear Litlle Mother (from Dødens Triumf 1970-72); and last, but not least, a never released (or finished) studio jam from 1973 of HEY JOE, made world famous by Jimi Hendrix.
The recording features Annisette in greatest shape singing "Hey Johanna.....", and a tight and unique band sound with Thomas on a Fender Rhodes, Anders on Organ, Peer Frost on guitar, and Rudolph Hansen, bass, and last but not least, the late, legenadry drummer Ken Gudmann.
The jam happened during the recording of an album, titled "Hey Johanna", that was never released or finished, because of a conflict between the band and Polydor International, Hamburg, that wanted control of the music way beyond what the record contract gave them, and The Savage Rose wanted to give them..
This terminated the relationship between The Savage Rose and the commercial record industry resulting in The Savage Rose metamorphosing into an acoustic band with John Raqvn, drums, and Peer Frost, guitar, the only musician of the previous band that followed Annisette & Thomas into the new, "liberated" musical journey that gave us as incredibly unique and classic albums - in Danish language - as Solen Var Også Din, Sangen For Livet, Ild & Frihed, the very special soccer hymn Stjerneskud, and much more.
Also, Annisette can be heard in the legendary, original recording of the Christiania song 'I Kan Ikke Slå Os Ihjel" ("You Can't Kill Us").
The new compilation features many great previously released and unreleased material from the Danish "Golden Age" 1968 - 1974. We miss such important albums as the legendary "Slumstormer" (squatter) album and som other music from the anti-war and revolutionary social movements that became a such importnt part of the Danish people during this period. That you'll have to find elsewhere, just like you won't find important artists like Sebastian or his fine songs of this era like "Hvis Du Tror Du Er Noget" or "Rose": or Leif Sylvester, Eva Madsen who also created several popular classics.

Hasta Siempre |
"Hasta siempre commandante".......tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans participated in the funeral of 72-year-old trumoet-player and hero of independence Filiberto Ojeda Rios, murdered in cold blood by two dozens FBI agents in his home about a week ago. The funeral took place in Rio Blanco and became a strong manifestation against a decadent US "empire"degrading the whole planet into one big "free trade zone" in which they are free to murder, steal, and lie, because "God Told Them To". See Annisette's and Thomas' message on the murder HERE.

September 25 2005:
Peace Rallies!!
|
We congratulate the American people on what seems to be the greatest US anti-war demonstration for decades - maybe ever - with between 300,000 and 600,000 participants in Washington DC (C-Span TV counted 500,000). The congratulations also go to the Iraqi people and its resistance against an illegal war, occupation and shadowy terrorism trying to set off a civil war - and the peoples af the world who demonstrated in numerous cities and countries. Annisette & Thomas went with their daughter Billie and their little 2 year old grandson with the peace rally in Copenhagen, Denmark, condemning also the illegal Danish participation in the occupation, and in support of the popular Iraqi resistance, which many compared to the underground resistance of the Danish people during Nazi occupation 1940 - 1945.
It is a strong sign of where true ethics, patriotism and dignity reside, that these popular manifestations take place only few days after British agents, disguies ad Iraqis, were arrested in Bazra, Iraq, for attempting to plant and detonate a car bomb that would have been blamed on "terrorists" and would have killed dozens of innocent Iraqis. Endless lies are spreading like bad odors from the masters of war; truth, freshness and culture are with the people.
Two days before Annisette & Thomas attended the Danish premiere of the Philippino animation "A Good Boy" about child abuse, rape and prostituion. The film, scored by Thomas and with Annisette performing "Up Up The Stairway" with street children of Manila, is already educating thousands of social workers in the far East. Annisette & Thomas contributed with a few songs, just the voice and a piano. Many in the audience were in tears. |

New Film Premiere Soon |
A Good Boy - the Philippine animated movie about sex exploitation of poor children in Manila and just about everywhere else - has its Danish premiere Sep 22 in Kolding. Thomas created the music for the film, based on recordings made when Annisette & Thomas visited the Stairway project for abused children in the Philippines january/february 2005 and did street concerts for the homeless in Manila's unbelievable slum areas. Annisette & Thomas might show up at the opening bringing the accordion...........
"A Good Boy" is already being distributed in most Far Eastern countries and is already educating thousands of school teachers and social workers how to identify and handle these problems.
More on this as soon as possible.....

New Book! |
A new international book, including a passionate and very personal look at The Savage Rose, has been released. It is written by the legendary South African rock writer and critic Shiloh Noone - SEEKER'S GUIDE TO THE RHYTHM OF YESTERYEAR. Soon we'll have it available at our Shop.
Here's a sample of the unique writing of Shiloh Noone:
"In 1971 Lester Bangs ranked the album Refugee as the underground trendsetter
with equal power to the much lauded "Who‚s Next" by the Who..."
Out of the 1969 Travellin‚ album slithered the vulnerable „Castle" that
wavered like a brittle anthem to broken warriors of the past. Nothing like
this had ached so eerily since the crackled strains of Marlene Dietrich that
hollered around the ovens of Auschwitz."
"Savage Rose‚ 1972 Diamond Babylon
testifies till the tears crack the cheek bones.+
"„Stagolee‚s Victory" is digging trenches that would
one day be filled by Nelson Mandela. The brass force joined the Rose for a
freshly blown version of „What Do You Do Now" which charted heavily in it‚s
first baptism on the Black Angel album. The trumpetry „Messenger" was
written for Malcolm X giving the Babylon album‚ Black Panther‚ status to
the point of being invited to play at a mass rally in Oakland. Savage Rose
were cutting to the bone and most likely the most authentic blues gospel
outfit to reach for salvation. While others reached for God, Savage Rose
reflected the pain of the Nazarene and the people he was crucified for....."
Don't miss this unique book by a unique writer.........
Also check out other writers on The Savage Rose.... like Archie Patterson's great EUROPEAN ROCK & THE 2ND CULTURE (USA), and Ritchie Unterberger's classic THE UNKNOWN LEGENDS OF ROCK'N'ROLL (USA) - and António Eça de Queiroz' “CONTOS ACRONICOS" (Portugal)...............

Summer's Over |
Hi again, everybody! Sorry we have been slow since the end of the Savage Rose concerts this summer....... here we are again - ready to update a lot on this site that hasn't been updated for too long. You may see little but important changes basically everywhere on the site over the next weeks.
We have to say the 7 Savage Rose concerts in Denmark were unforgettable for the just about one hundred thousand who attended them. To us maybe the Hedeland concert June 11 was the peak of it all; the 4500 ecstatic people; the enormous and strange venue in the middle of nowhere; the cold and rain that was everywhere EXCEPT just over this amphi-theatre; Annisette; the band, the Greenlandish mask dancers........ but then again, the other concerts.... each one had its own.......
As soon as possible we'll post photos, audience comments, and more.
If you have suggestions and wishes, photos, please post them in our Guestbook - or e-mail your Webmaster and we'll listen.............. |

Succesful Demonstration
|
Today's STOP BUSH demonstration in Copenhagen became a tremendous success.
The huge parliament square was rocking when Thomas lit the explosive honky-tonk piano intro of the Savage Rose '68 classic "Long Before I Was Born" - and then the harsh 2001 Bush-portrait "Stop The Crazy Man".
Annisette had all of the 30,000 demonstrators - tears down their cheeks - sing with her in the beautiful inter-Scandinavian anti-war song "Surrounded By Enemies" ("Kringsatt Av Fiender").
Great folk singer Poul Dissing again visited The Savage Rose, joining Annisette in the Christiania hymn "I Kan Ikke Slå Os Ihjel" ("You Can't Kill Us").
Kim Larsen and his "Kjukken" band did a beautiful performance, as did comedienne Annemarie Helger, succesful immigrant rapper Ataf, and several other fine artists. Even the sun was present and generous.
"I feel this demo is a turning point in Denmark", Thomas said. Gone is the fear and cautiousness of the past 4 - 5 years; finally people are back to their own great self. This is how we love the Danish people, warm, inventive, courageous and sharing! This is the culture of life and love - against the culture of greed and death.... a truly wonderful day!"
There were several additional "pre-" and "after-demos" around Copenhagen, and still more demonstrations in several other Danish cities.
We are hoping to get some great pictures from the Savage Rose concert at the demo; please mail us if you have great shots you can share.
Last stop on the Savage Rose 2005 summer tour is Bornholm July 13. Hasta La Vista.....

UPDATE July 5:

LATEST NEWS!!!!
There's another chance to see The Savage Rose in Copenhagen......The Savage Rose are among headlining artists and politicians at the large STOP BUSH manifestation July 6 in Copenhagen when "President" Bush arrives in Copenhagen to thank his war criminal pal Anders Fogh Rasmussen and presumably discuss the next planned assaults on Iran and Syria.
Thomas: "It is no secret that we oppose the Bush/Neocon plans for an enslaved world - so-called "globalization". They're tearing the USA apart too. Being a friend of the real USA - and all peoples on this planet - today means to reveal and fight these ugly guys and their puppeteers behind the curtain...Stop the crazy man!......"
Kim Larsen, Annemarie Helger, Erik Clausen, Moussa Diallo, Ataf, Rasmus Noehr and many other artists also perform at the STOP BUSH demo.
___________________________
Today's Ekstrabladet (major Danish daily) has a big interview with Annisette & Thomas about Bush's visit to Denmark.
Among other things they say:
"The demonstrators tomorrow are defending the honor of the Danish people. Only 13% of Danes now support Bush; the Danish prime minister doesn't even have the support of the majority of his own party for his obedience to Bush..... So tomorrow's demonstration represents the huge majority of the Danish people.
"This isn't just about politics, this is about crime. The Iraq war is a crime against the US as well as the Danish constitutions and all international charters. Bush, Blair and the whole gang should go on trial.....

Savage Rose at the Kløften Festival

It was another memorable performane, when The Savage Rose visited thousands of happy festival-goers at the beautiful Kløften Festival. June 13 2005:
"Unforgettable" |
The two Savage Rose concerts this weekend became what many in the audience called 'unforgettable'. In Odense the sold-out park just didn't want to let go of Annisette and the band - in spite of the biting cold weather. A very special and moving moment arose when wonderful popular singer Poul Dissing came on stage and joined Annisette in the old Christiania hymn "I Kan Ikke Slå Os Ihjel" ("You Can't Kill Us").
At the Hedeland Amphitheatre 4,500 had an experience for life. The dramatic weather left the theatre untouched by the powerful rain that hit almost everything else around the country. It was really incredible to see the black clouds rushing by, letting the dazzling white rays of the setting sun move around the theatre as a supernatural counterpoint to the music of The Savage Rose. We heard songs as new as "Happy Day Angel" and all the way back to the "Big Bang" - 1968 - like "Long Before I Was Born". "Screams Of Captured Birds" proved as edgy in 2005 as it was in 1973.
Annisette's and Thomas' classic song to Greenland, "Inuit Nunat", drew a line from exiled Inuits in Copenhagen slum to the crystal mountains of one of the most beautiful countries and peoples on the planet. Two wonderful Inuit mask dancers (Aviaja Lumholdt and Vivi Nielsen) came down from the top of the huge amphitheatre and thrilled everyone with their witchcraft, circling around Annisette on the big stage.
Performed by just Annisette and Thomas with his big grand piano, "Your Daily Gift" (written 1970) became a solemn, dizzying and ery contemporary summit of a concert that was already an Andesian landscape. Annisette dedicated it to the Bolivian Indians coming down from their mountains in order to, with their bare hands, stop the progress of murderous corporate greed threatening to destroy the people and nature of this planet.
Another deeply moving moment was when all 4500 quietly joined Annisette singing the immensely beautiful inter-Scandinavian anti-war song "Kringsatt Av Fiender" ("Surrounded By Enemies"). The artists on the stage and the people in front of it melted together and made the concert a huge human event even bigger than music. Truly unforgettable.
We shall present pictures from the concerts as soon as ever possible.

Busy Rose |
The Savage Rose wastes no time. They have visited and performed at several popular activities around Copenhagen, among those a demonstration in their 'old' neighborhood, the South Harbor district of Copenhagen in support of 'The Children's Animal farm', a 20 year old children's initiative serving hundreds of poor children in this neglected neighborhood, against plans of using their area for a golf training center for rich people from the sunny side of the city. Also they performed at a demonstration (picture) uniting Palestinians, Israelis and others against the Israeli wall that is creating a Warsaw-like ghetto and destroying life for millions of Palestinians.
This morning they performed 'The Flute Behind The Wall' on the popular TV show 'Good Morning Denmark'. Also today they will sing at the burial of one of their young friends.
Besides all this, they're preparing for the great shows of this weekend in Odense and the huge concert at the Hedeland Amphi-theatre right outside Copenhagen. |

Media, Audience
|
Lots of Danish media have used the opportunity to feature The Savage Rose..... TV, newspapers, radio.... latest: Sunday major daily Berlingske featured Annisette in a huge full page interview, including a beautiful new portrait on the front page of the paper and the headline "Annisette - the rebel is back".
Here are some thoughts on the concerts, picked from our guestbooks (that are back up and running again after a major hack!):
"...Don't underestimate the effect of your music, and the audience's experience of being together. There were people that had traveled from Aarhus, Copenhagen, Sweden and many other places. And the local life and society of Grenå blossomed in a rare and uniquely beautiful way because of your presence. The joy and fulfilment people feel at your music and concerts are being brought along back to people's near surroundings - family, friends, collegues....."
"..."Krinngsatt af fiender" became a deep and exciting chase into the forgotten corners of conscience, and the memories of all good and bad in life were absorbed into the atmosphere of the song, that became so overwhelming that I finally had to just surrender to enloying the melody and sing along, together with everybody else, enjoy the atmosphere of togetherness...... and the feeling rose, that it actually matters to be together doing something mutual......" |

First Concerts! |
Savage Rose are on their way back to Copenhagen to rest a couple of days after two incredible concerts, and spending a week in Grenå, rehearsing with the band. They have a lot of interviews with the media Monday and Tuesday, and Wednesday there is a news conference on the big Savage Rose concert at Hedeland close to Roskilde, Denmark, June 11.
Friday's concert in Grenå had been totally sold out for weeks, and the atmosphere was so intense that it fekt like the concert hall itself had a heartbeat. People in the audinece were shining, smiles and tears all over their faces. A totally unique and fantastic evening.
Today Savage Rose played the mail stage of the Jellinge Festival at 6 PM. It was a grandiose experience for the more than ten thousand people present. But someone among the organizers made a horrible mistake and started another band in a tent nearby, before Savage Rose had stopped playing, and a techno drum broke into the intense, soft lines in the beginning of 'Thank You' and continued during the encore 'I Kan Ikke Slå Os Ihjel' ("You Can't Kill Us' - the song of the threatened freetown Christiania).
However, this couldn't prevent the songs of The Savage Rose from melting into the beautful summer day, the fresh green trees and the happy youngsters in front of the stage and creating a rare and strong human experience for everyone at the festival.
More as soon as possible........ see about the upcoming concerts HERE |

A & T In Loiza
|
 |
Annisette & Thomas ended their May Day in the lovely garden of the famous Ayala family in Loïza, Puerto Rico. For generations, the Ayala family have been a power center for the Bomba music, originally developed by African slaves in Puerto Rico centuries agoi and still the main musical expression of their decessors around Loïza. Bomba ('explosion') is done on drums only accompanied by the voices of the drummers and other people present, and one or more dancers in a dramatic and highly equilibristic visualization of struggle, sensuality and freedom.
In the photo you see Annisette & Thomas performing their 'Fløjten Bag Muren' in Danish to the Ayala family and the people of the little street. To the far left: Raquel Ayala, a leading dancer of the Loïza Bomba for decades; to the far right: Raûl Ayala, one of the famous Hermanos Ayala drummers. The photo was taken by the friend Rafael Lebellon. |

May Day Greeting |
Annisette & Thomas sends this greeting on The First Of May 2005:
This day, the workers' day, the day for socialism and change, brings so many memories.... and it brings joy and hope. It brings us so close to all our friends around this planet, in Denmark, Los Angeles, New York, Manila, Nuuk of Greenland, Palestine........ all the unique and wonderful nations that fill up the planet and our hearts. We are all one huge human longing for social justice, true popular culture, and peace.
True music is the breath of the people, as we have always found the magic of music in the hope and power of the suffering workers and the people, anywhere, anytime. Freedom is the language of true art.
.... to every teller lady in Los Angeles, Copenhagen, everywhere .... a new May Day for love, change, revolution, a never-ending song of freedom!
We can't wait until we - very soon - shall meet our friends and audience in Denmark.... and together with you make the music glow and celebrate the sprouting spring....

NHØP - May 27 1946 - April 19, 2005
MESSAGE FROM ANNISETTE & THOMAS |
"It's hard to believe.
Our old friend and co-musician, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, better known as NHØP, has passed away - way too early.
A wonderful, shining man, admired all over the planet for his sublime bass playing and musicianship, recording and touring with a. o. Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins..........
......... You can hear Niels-Henning's warm and singing bass, carrying Annisette, who had just given birth to Billie, and the band, along like in a big, safe and gentle hand, in the original version of What Do You Do Now on Babylon. Few, but great, people listened to that album when it was released; now the album is a legend in itself and Niels Henning is very much part of that legend.........."

Philippines, Concerts, CD |
Dear all friends,
we're sorry it has been so long since the news have been updated! And not because nothing is happening - in the opposite!!! too many things are happening!
Annisette & Thomas have returned from the Philippines and the Stairway street children. "This has been unforgettable for both of us," says Thomas. "We have too many songs to write, too many stories to tell. Too many faces that shine in our memory. They will all be with us, in our daily life, in our music, in our concerts. We're now working on the music for the Stairway animation "A Good Boy - so we're still in the middle of it all".
In the future we at savagerose.com will post pictures, stories, video from this journey to heaven and hell, that ended with Annisette's and Thomas' spontaneous street concerts in the impossible slums of Manila, where five million out of ten million inhabitants are homeless - living in the streets or in homemade tin shacks whereever they fit in - even on top of eachother.
The Savage Rose are also preparing their concerts in Denmark in June. More about this including dates very soon.
Because of an overwhelming lot of creative work the new studio album has been rescheduled to February/March 2006, also the Scandinavian tour. More soon.....
Lena, our wonderful webmaster throughout several years, has moved to the Philippines where she is working now on internet design. But we'll get up and running at full speed again now, and we have to, because Annisette & Thomas are not wasting any time but are storming ahead with breathtaking creative power and speed.
Except for the concerts in June, this year you'll find them in the outskirts of the Puerto Rican rain forest....
More soon!!!!! stay tuned......
- and many more pictures/sounds/video to follow....

January 17 2005:
2005 |
Annisette & Thomas are on their way to the Philippines. They're going to spend a month with STAIRWAY FOUNDATION, a successful rehabilitation conter for street children of Manila close to the rain forest about four hours from Manila.
Stairway Foundation last year created a dazzling and courageous animated movie about child buse. The movie had music by The Savage Rose and was screened at the Annecy Festival, which is the most important international festival for animations. It was awarded two awards, the award as best educational movie, and UNICEF's honorary award.
A new movie is under production from Stairway - scored by The Savage Rose.
Annisette & Thomas will return to Denmark mid February, only to move on directly to Los Angeles. 2005 is going to be a very busy year for the two. Besides the movie about street children another large-scale project is waiting - a big, new, international work of music inspired by the indigenous polar peoples, with music, song, dance, to be presented in 2006-07. More about this later.
Also The Savage Rose are going to record their first studio album since the legendary For Your Love album from 2001. The CD is being produced by The Savage Rose's L. A. based label, Street Ballerina Music and is expected released in October 2005, distributed and marketed by RecArt.
Thomas has thanked no to be, along with American composer Stephen Schwarz, a main composer of Gladsaxe Theater's Hans Christian Andersen musical for the Hans Christian Andersen Year Celebrations, because the theatre wanted extraordinary limitations in traditional composer's rights.
Also The Savage Rose can be experienced LIVE at few, selected festivals in Scandinavia June thru August 2005. A Scandinavian tour of concert halls is expected October/November 2005.
We relax when we do good things, says Thomas.

New Year's Message
from
Annisette
and Thomas
|
This is New Year’s morning, 3:30 AM ... in Copenhagen, Denmark.
At this very moment millions of poor people are shivering, crying, their
hearts exploding with sorrow, fear; searching wrecked, ill-smelling beaches
for their loved ones, for whatever is left of their homes, fishing tools;
they’re wounded, hungry, have nothing to drink but black water of death.
No song can ever express the compassion and love we feel for the Indonesian
woman crying over her dead baby, or the young Swedish girl that lost her
boyfriend and now couldn’t imagine living herself.
The water is innocent. The Earth is innocent.
But not everyone is innocent...........

| November 22, 2004: New CD With Annisette Released Today |
The new Danish CD I SKOVENS DYBE STILLE RO was released in Denmark today. Several outstanding Danish singers contribute with a traditional Danish song. Besides our Annisette you can listen to Søren Sko, Karen & Helene, Ester Brohus, Poul Krebs, Michael Bundesen and several others. National Danish daily JYLLANDSPOSTEN writes: "....Annisette, Intimacy's most masterly bare-foot artist. This time singing right out of the cradle Carl Nielsen's and Harald Bergstedt's Solen er så rød mor (the sun is so red ma). With Thomas Koppel behind organ and keyboards you feel convinced that you're listening to a new, classic interpretation of the song. On Carl Nielsen's music sheet he wrote that the song must be played "smoothly going forward". How should the great composer have been able to get any closer? he never had the chance to listen to Annisette........."

"Oh Happy Day is a compassionate movie in which the characters aren't the same when the movie ends. There's great and convincing acting. But the biggest experience was a very beautiful scene with Hannah and Jackson who express their love for each other while rose leafs are falling from the dome of the church, while Annisette sings one of the most beautiful songs. Then i was sitting with chills all over my body. What a great feeling........ " (Arbejderen Daily Nov 5 2004)

Annisette & Thomas Protesting Election |
Annisette & Thomas - together with friends - joined the first demonstration in Los Angeles against the second presidency of George W. Bush. Several hundred people - mostly very young - gathered in the early evening of Nov. 3 at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine to let the Bush administration know it still has no legitimacy in another stolen election.
"People of the world - rise up! People of the world - rise up!"
"America - - wake up! America - - wake up!
Thomas said, "It was a huge relief to be with all these beautiful and courageous people and feel the enormous support from ten thousands more in cars, for hours creating a permanent and very noisy solidarity concert of car horns and hands signaling passionate support."
One main theme was the expected imminent U. S. massacres on Falluja and other Iraqi cities.
The were several more demonstrations around Los Angeles on Nov. 3.

Thomas & Hans Christian Andersen |
Some
media have mentioned that Thomas, with a. o. US Broadway composer
Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Wicked),, is among the authors of
Gladsaxe Theatre's new largescale musical on Hans Christian
Andersen. Thomas has asked us to pass this on to you all:
"I have been invited by theater director Flemming Enevold
to be a co-composer of the musical, responsible for a number
of songs, the dramatic music, and all arrangements.
I was very happy as I am a big HCA fan and previously have written
an opera for the Royal Opera as well as an ice skating ballet
for the gala of the European Championships in figure skating,
both based on Andersen.
I have had great creative conversations with Flemming Enevold,
Stephen Schwartz, and playwright Philip LaZebnik.
However, I asked the theatre to not publish my possible cooperation
until our agreement was settled and done, and this phase is
not quite finished yet."

The
new Savage Rose Live album ARE
YOU READY is now available at another great US website too - EUROCK........
reports say it sells really well....This is famed rock writer Archie
Patterson's review: "Thomas and Annisette are original pioneers
of Euro progressive music beginning in Denmark in 1968. This is Savage
Roses first LIVE album, recorded at European concerts during
2002-2003; it shows the band is now more dynamic than ever. Older
material and new is equally powerful, as the music + lyrics and Annisettes
voice is literally transcendent." |

South Africa On The Savage Rose |
New
South African book on Rock/Blues, SEEKER'S GUIDE TO THE RHYTHM OF
YESTERYEAR, written by powerful music writer Shiloh Noone, with
a unique chapter on the early Savage Rose. Here are a couple of
his mindblowing thoughts on The Savage Rose:
"....Savage Rose out of the Belly of Malcolm X...."
"....[On Babylon Annisette was] digging trenches that would
one day be filled by Nelson Mandela..........."
"...the vulnerable Castle" that wavered like a brittle
anthem to broken warriors of the past. Nothing like
this had ached so eerily since the crackled strains of Marlene Dietrich
that hollered around the ovens of Auschwitz...."
"....The Savage Rose were cutting to the bone and most likely
the most authentic blues gospel outfit to reach for salvation. While
others reached for God, Savage Rose reflected the pain of the Nazarene
and the people he was crucified for....... Anisette poured the oil
on his feet through her salvation pleading Ride My Mountain"
that dripped achingly from probably their finest bleed.......
.We hope to be able to bring more excerpts and possibly to make
the book available in our Shop...Till then, see more at the book's

Thomas On Release Of ARE YOU READY |
Are
You Ready will be released in several countries shortly. In September
CMC Norway is preparing a big launch including serious TV advertising
and more.Lots of exciting news... Japan is releasing 3 Savage Rose
albums. Germany includes The Savage Rose in compilations... Lullabies
From The Axis Of Evil to be released in numerous countries....The
Christiania CD, which includes Savage Rose's JUNGLEBARN (JUNGLE CHILD)
is out as well ... stay tuned!!
We have asked Thomas about his and Annisette's feelings about the
release of ARE YOU READY: "We are humbled by the many
heart-breaking expressions of support and love we have received. From
'ordinary people' as well as people in the media, who still maintain
honesty, are still alive! This means so much more because of the controversy
this album - and our interviews - have stirred. Why? simply because
we are like most people - won't give in to injustice and criminal
war. Which is incompatible with the present Danish government - which
is responsible for more than 500 Dnaish youngsters who are now caught
in the Iraqi tragedy facing totally unnecessary dangers.
Not until right now has the Danish National Radio decided to include
just one song from the album on their playlists! Not playing it at
all since the release is an outright scandal, but it turned out this
didn't scare the Danes away from buying the CD! Thank you, all friends
of true music in Denmark!"
We at savagerose.com might add, that Are You Ready is definitely the
most exciting CD release this year....breathtakling songs, wonderful
musicians, great singers, and - as many reviews have established -
Annisette more than ever one of the most unique and electrifying singers
in the world today.
Whereever you are - you can get your ARE YOU READY right here - just

British Tribute To The Savage Rose |
My interest in Danish rocknroll
began by accident in early 99, when I paid 20 pence for
a perfect copy of The Savage Roses wonderfuelled instrumental
LP DODENS TRIUMF.....", writes Julian Cope, HEAD
HERITAGE. "...not only transcendant rocknroll,
but Savage Rose also bucked all traditions by taking Spectors
3-minute rush and re-contextualising it within The Doors
first 3LPs (Light My Fire via Five- To One
through to Unknown Soldier) to sustain a flat out
Rock Operatic burn up I aint never heard elsewhere then
or since....." "...they clearly retain an idealism
that keeps them as adored in modern Denmark as they were thirty-five
years ago..... Im convinced that you will feel driven
to further excavate their enormous (and enormously thorough)
canon of work. "

other classic Danish rock bands like Young Flowers, Burning
Red Ivanhoe a. o.) |

Annisette's TV Show |
Tonight's Danish
TV Show:
Annisette's appearance on the Søren Ryge Petersen Show
tonight became unforgettable, according to thousands of viewers
writing Søren Ryge or Annisette herself. "Annisette
was so sweet and lovely"...."Thomas, you can be proud
of your wonderful wife"....."Perfect"....' Noone
but Annisette can speak so naturally and heartfelt about small
things and big things like war - on primetime TV!!!....thank
you!" - are just excerpts of the letters we're receiving.
In a simple and moving manner, Annisette talked about her childhood,
her grandparents as well as her own new-born grandson. |
 |
She sang an
old traditional Danish lullaby a cappella, and drew a fine line
from the importance of lullabies to today's popular struggle
against war and oppression. Annisette's grandiose performance
in PRECIOUS LOVE (from the upcoming Live album ARE YOU READY)
(to be released June 1) was presented with a unique videofeaturing
the beautiful Danish nature around Søren Ryge's ranch.
Also, Søren Ryge presented some of his most beloved music
to Annisette: namely several pieces from Thomas' one-of-a-kind
music drama MASS FOR A CASE.
The Søren Ryge Petersen Show is one of the most popular
shows of national Danish TV, watched by just about one third
of the total grown-up Danish population! |

re-released by Street Ballerina Music - distributed in Scandinavia
by CMC. For years this incredible piece of art has been available
on this site only. Now it is again going to be available in
any record store around Scandinavia.
Tonight's SØREN RYGE PETERSEN Show in national Danish
TV, featuring Annisette, presented several themes from this
music, and there is right now a phone storm to the show of people
wanting to know more about MASS FOR A CASE............ |

Annisette On Primetime TV |
Yesterday,
Annisette was the guest of one of Denmark's most popular TV host,
garden artist Søren Ryge Petersen. Søren Ryge had questions
for Annisette about her relationship to flowers, music, and her life
as Denmark's greatest singer throughout decades. The program is being
watched by just about one third of all grown-up Danes!
The Annisette show will be aired May 4, 8.30 PM. besides an inspired
conversation, Søren Ryge presents music by The Savage Rose
(a. o. Annisette's un-earthly performance in PRECIOUS LOVE from the
upcoming Live album), and theatrical music by Thomas, a. o. SAD CHILD
BALLET, and several themes from MASS FOR A CASE..
In an advance publicity of the show Politiken, a major Danish Daily,
wrote: Søren Ryge will be visited by Annisette and looks forward
to this event like a little child. Not only will she see his beautiful
garden, they will also get a chance to talk about the music. Søren
has always wanted to play Annisette's music in his programs, but her
voice is simply so big and fabulous that all other messages would
drown.
Don't miss out on the show.. |

New Savage Rose Album This Spring!!!!!! |
The
new Savage Rose album is just about completed! Close friends that
heard bits from the album say it is going way beyond the latest three
albums, with a raw energy and power surpassing even the very first
albums.
"I heard a couple of rough mixes", says Los Angeles manager
Barbara Baker (the Queen, Freddie Mercury, The Cars, Alice Cooper,
and Nina Hagen). I was blown away by the energy and power of the recordings,
and of course Annisette... her voice has never been stronger, rougher,
or more beautiful - she is truly one of the greatest singers in the
world today. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but this beats even
Black Angel, which is one of my all time favorite albums!"
The album was recorded Live mainly at the legendary GREY HALL in the
'liberated city' Christiania in The Savage Rose's native Copenhagen.
This is the first album ever with the Savage Rose recorded Live. However,
it is no 'ordinary' Live album. It is a truly new and irresistable
message from some unique artists, and right on the edge of this era.
It is music, and it is a human message. A great band, directed by
Thomas, joins Annisette, and a wonderful audience, as well as the
drama of reality, of war & peace, and mutual human hope and longing,
play along too. Stay tuned for a universal musical message

The Power of the People Won't Stop |
Annisette & Thomas joined the 20.000+ anti-war rally in Los Angeles
on Saturday march 20 2004. Thomas said: " This is the real culture
of the people! here's no profits, no greed, but a huge vision that
reaches all around the planet; determination, humanity, fun, and beauty!
"
More than 250 cities around the US participated in rallies condemning
the criminal violence against Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Haiti.
In Copenhagen thousands demonstrated, in Rome between one and two
millions; all around the globe, in thousands of cities, the popular
dream of peace and justice is proving to be an unprecedented, irresistible,
global engine for change. "Ain't No Power Like The Power Of The
People Cause The Power Of The People Won't Stop!"

Daughter |
The Savage Rose's
1996 recording of 'What Do You Do Now (Black Angel) is the musical
foundation of a new short Philippine animated documentary, 'Daughter',
to be released soon. The film is a social and artistic masterpiece.
The producer is Stairway Foundation, a program that takes care
of street children of Manila:
Most of the children and youth we have worked with and cared
for here at Stairway over the past decade have not been orphans,
but rather refugees, who have fled their homes due to violence
and abuse. These children and their families are all victims
of abject poverty......[but] child sexual abuse is not a malaise
confined to those most deprived in our society. It is an evil
taking its toll in all nations, cultures and social classes....

Binding me to the past
Cutting the shackles
Away at last
No more heartache
No more shame
From now on I refuse
To play the silent game'

Annisette & Thomas In Jam Session |
| Friday
10 October The day after Annisette returned to L. A. after the
historic Savage Rose Scandinavia concerts August - September
2003, Annisette & Thomas contributed to a jam session honoring
two key figures in the legendary Leimert Park neighborhood of
South Los Angeles. 'Torre' Brannon Reese and Sunny (of 'Sunny's
Spot) both celebrated birthdays,
and that happened - of course - at 'Sunny's Spot'. The doors
were open to the street, and people kept pouring in. Annisette
& Thomas performed 'Thank You', 'A World Aflame - Not In
Our Name', and 'What Do You Do Now' as a tribute to two friends
that have had a major importance to this great artistic neighborhood
and to progressive art & culture in general through efforts
like Artists For Justice And Liberation, and Malcolm X Festival
that this year attracted more than 25,000 people. Also, they
have several other programs to inspire and educate the mainly
African-American youth of the area. (More on Artists For Justice

The concerts Are Over... |
The Savage Rose concerts
in Scandinavia 2003 are over. Savage Rose concerts are always
very emotional - for the audience as well as for the artists.
But still, these these were special - even for The Savage Rose.
Maybe it's the general mood on the planet right now - who knows.
Underneath all varieties of 'everyday life' - from the horrors
of military occupation in Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, to the
suppressed fear of the future of the Scandinavian peoples -
the songs flew up from an abyss and touched the sky, with a
tightly knit, deeply loyal and extremely inspired band and an
Annisette at her very strongest ever, with emotion and presence
unequalledby any singer anywhere on the planet.
Annisette & Thomas - and Klaus, Moussa, Peter Michael, Sara,
Naja, Aisha, Hannibal and the whole crew thank you all for unforgettable
moments - so important at a time like this. And thank you also
for many wonderful letters in the guestbook and via direct e-mails.
We are all overwhelmed by your love.
Annisette & Thomas have not gone on vacation. They are busy
around the clock finishing the upcoming Savage Rose Live album
and DVD - which will include recordings even from the very last
concert at Christiania Sept. 20. The most likely release date
for the Live Album may be Feb. 15 2004. But we at www.savagerose.com
can't say for sure. One thing we know for sure is - this is
going to be a very important album - in more than one way. They
also have a lot of other artistic activities going on.
In the near future we update you bit by bit on the concerts
and a lot of news. Please stay in touch. www.fedrelandsvennen.no

We're back |
Soooooorrrrrryyyyyy!
The site has been treated awfully and that at a time when a lot of
extremely exciting Savage Rose events were happening.
Now finally savagerose.com will again go back to its old interesting
and all-the-time-updated self.
I am sorry if you have been craving news and been disappointed, but
I can promise you, I will make it up to you from now on. (Been ill
for quite some time, and therefore unstable)
First of all echoes from the August/September concerts in Scandinavia
will soon resound through this site, like they do everywhere where
The Savage Rose have been passing through.
You should also keep an eye on our store; we're working to reorganize
it for a much smoother and more interesting experience whether you're
in a buying mood or not.
And of course, as always, please write me with ideas, comments or
questions so I can make sure this site is all the things you expect.
Love,
Lena

The Savage Rose For Christiania August 30 |
Everything
is just about ready for the upcoming Savage Rose concerts in
Scandinavia! Please note the extra-pre-premiere concert August
27 in Grenaa (Aug. 28 is sold out). And now: The Savage Rose,
like always before, For Christiania!
Since Annisette's memorable performance at the tribute To Janis
Joplin show in New York's Central Park July 27, there has been
frantic creativity at Annisette's & Thomas' California home/workshop.......
The last days before their departure for Copenhagen are being
spent finishing the recording of their new power-song dedicated
to the 'freetown' Christiania - with musician friends like drummer
Rod Wilson (son of famous organ player Ruben Wilson), and incredible
guitarist Goffrey Moore. The song is The Savage Rose's contribution
to a new Christiania album to be released this fall.
Also, The Savage Rose will be heard in front of the Danish parliament
in connection with a huge People's Parade For Christiania August
30. The freetown is being
threatened with extinction by the unusually un-Danish Danish
government, that boasts to be preparing an almost Iraq-like
assault on the popular village, that has contributed so generously
to Danish as well as world culture, and is now actually no.
5 on the chart of popular European touristical sites!!!!
|
 |
Besides The Savage Rose, numerous Danish and international artists
contribute such as Kim Larsen, Sort Sol, Gnags and Nina Hagen. Supporters
are being expected from all of Europe. Special trains and busses from
all over Denmark will bring people from all corners of the country
to Copenhagen to contribute to an irresistible manifestation for The
Right To Diversity.

Reviews of the Janis Tribute concert |
HEADLINE:
"Annisette held New York spellbound"
" The sixties, peace and flowers, became alive when some of the
world's greatest female voices Sunday celebrated Janis Joplin's 60
years birthday. It happened in New York's Central Park, and the weather
prophets had promised thunder and rain, but the only drops fell from
the eyes of the audience, while they were spinning around to Joplin's
Ball And Chain, Piece Of My Heart and Kozmic Blues...the latter sung
by the Danish super vocalist Annisette of The Savage Rose. 'Annisette
has one of the world's most intense and beautiful voices', Savage
Rose fan Kent Gendron said after the show - with big christmas candles
in his eyes. .... Children, youngsters and older people stood shoulder
by shoulder with their arms reaching up, shouting and rejoicing every
time an artist grabbed the soul roots of the songs and shook them,
so that star dust fell on us all....'

TRIBUTE TO JANIS |
Thousands of people in front of the Central Park Summerstage in New York
rejoiced, cried, and smiled with twenty powerful female soloists
and Big brother & The Holding Company as well as The Kozmic
Blues Band yesterday at the TRIBUTE TO JANIS celebration of Janis
Joplin's 60 years birthday.
There was so much true music that this event became a great promise
for the future. While music industry is complaining like a rusty
Titanic true music, as defined by the greatist artists from Janis
to the performers of this show, is doing grea - another proof that
some people actually want real music. The audience were not just
babyboomers - hundreds of youngsters clearly enjoyed the output
of true artistic power.
The Savage Rose Official Web Site sends a big thanks to Walter Durcasz
and his Summerstage staff for having the vision and courage. Corporative
mergers and stock transactions are not what music audiences want;
music is.
Annisette impersonated true music: dark, raw, soulful, and beautiful.
She brought everybody to tears with her big, soulful interpretation
of Kozmic Blues - maybe the closest the show got to touching the
heart of that young girl that died only 27 but left so much love
for millions of people who still feel it.
Like at the end of the sixties, these years are a time of lies,
death and disaster; more than ever the world truly needs love and
truth. Janis' message: love, love, and love. We salute every artist
of the Tribute To Janis show for contributing with love and true
art.
For your information: Annisette did KOZMIC BLUES, and MOVE OVER.
Move Over she accepted with less than 24 hours notice after Nina
Hagen had to cancel, but she gave it riveting drama and authencity.
Among the many other soloists making
this night truly memorable were Phoebe Snow, N'Dea Davenport, Simone
Simone (Nina Simone's talented daughter), Milini Khan (Chaka's talented
daughter!), Baby Jane Dexter, and Christine Ohlmann..
