September 11, 2001. We all know what that date
means. We all bow our heads and cry for the victims of the horrible crime.
September 15, 1982, the world came to a stand-still also. Young girls,
boys, fathers and mothers were massacred in the Sabrah and Shateelah refugee
camps. It's 20 years today.
We saw the documentation. Our wonderful friends of all ages, whom we got
to know little more than a year before. They were not singing anymore,
not smiling, not dancing. Not talking about their inextinguishable hope
for peace and happiness. We saw them raped, mutilated. Can't even make
myself mention what really happened to them.
More than 3500 were tortured
to death or disappeared during those hours of unspeakeble horror. Ariel
Sharon was pointed out as responsible by an Israeli court and had to withdraw
from politics. This man is now leader of a nation and uses his power to
again kill and mutilate, every day, while the world is silent like a nightmare.
No US president threatens this terrorist through 50 years, paid by US
taxpayers' money.
Like the Palestinians, the Jews are musical people. There is little music
- and therefore very little Jewish culture - in the State Of Israel as
directed by Ariel Sharon and the like. Triple barbed wire, watchtowers,
around the Palestinian territories? Another WarsawGhetto? Another Nazi concentration camp? You can't
fence in the will to live, the hope, the cry for justice.
Mr. Sharon is fencing in the Israeli people as well. They too are surrounded
by barbed wire.
And the American people is being fenced in.....by TV screens, a polished
wall of untold truth. Why? Because only a minority in the US do support
Mr. President's and Mr. Vice President's Holy Oil War. Actually, fewer
and still fewer. Mr. President is screaming louder, shriller these days.
For a reason.
For the biggest threat to the warlords might not Osama Bin Laden or Saddam
Hussein (both actually once equipped by US governments). The greatest
obstacle to the Bush wars could be ordinary people like you and me, including
the American people, all the peoples of this blue planet longing for peace,
longing for bread, longing for a spark of happiness in their childrens'
eyes.
Now is unique. The war could actually be stopped before it begins, and
replaced by investments in humanity, health, life.
Skip fear and wake up. This planet needs that. Join billions of people
hoping for peace and justice. Join the universal Song For Freedom. True
Freedom.

AMAL - HOPE OF PALESTINE (sung in Danish)
Amal
smiles through tears.
Amal smiles through pain.
Amal, Amal, hope of Palestine!
Amal, tomorrow is yours.
Hold on to my shoulder, my little one,
No evil shall reach you.
Like a cat Daddy's using his teeth.
With Sister on the arm we shall make it
Alive, from beach to beach,
Over bridges that burn.
Look big black birds are chasing us on
From the cities to moon-white valleys.
Listen: The Earth, where we sowed the seeds of love,
Is calling: while the bombs of the fascists are falling.
Hurry on, my little girl,
This night you shall rest with the sun in the sand.
On and on,
Amal, hope of Palestine.
Still how long is the whole world going to stay silent!
Amal smiles through tears.
Amal smiles through pain.
Amal, Amal, hope of Palestine!
Amal, tomorrow is yours!
